Jane Hodgson
Jane has a BA Hons Fine Art. MA Arts and Ecology. Graduate Mentoring Programme, Newlyn School of Art.
She was a graphic designer for over twenty years, so colour and composition have always been a big part of her world. She classes herself as a colourist, leaning towards abstraction with her work coming from a continual obsession with colour in the landscape, man-made and natural – blocks and stripes of it, for this is what she sees day-to-day.
Horizontal stripes make up a lot of her new work - if we are far enough away from the horizon, our view will appear pretty flat; to Jane this is calming, like looking out to sea is calming.
She travels as much as she can; her work is a direct response to Africa, Europe, South East Asia, India and New Zealand as well the South West of England where she lives.
Her aim is to encourage the viewer into their own space for contemplation and meditation; time to create their own narratives and hopefully peace. She doesn’t describe a scene; she wants you to imagine your own, for yourself.
