Grace Moran
Grace is inspired by the environment and how humans and nature interact with it, which goes hand in hand with her interest in illustration. She likes to incorporate characters into a setting and enjoys considering the narrative which an image could create.
Her paintings are often in a portrait format even though they are landscapes as she feels it captures the personality of a place in a unique way and doesn’t restrain it to only a view. When looking at her work she hopes people feel a connection to the area pictured. This is because she wants to encourage people to take care of their local areas and the natural world in general.
She finds taking photos and visiting an area to be an important part of her process and will often go back to a location multiple times to do this. Once she has an idea in her head she usually starts painting as soon as she can. This process usually starts out with a sketch and an underpainting in her preferred medium, gouache.
