Katrina Slack
Katrina Slack is an artist based in St Ives Cornwall. She works in a range of mediums both as a painter and a sculptor. Her sculptures are made from wire and found materials; mostly materials washed up on the shoreline e.g fishing line, net and plastics. Her work has been exhibited at the Natural History Museum in London, has appeared on BBC Springwatch and one of her sculptures is currently being exhibited in Los Angeles. Katrina has worked with a variety of organisations such as ‘World Animal Protection’ ‘Surfers Against Sewage’ producing sculptures to raise awareness about ocean pollution and wildlife extinction. Her work regularly appears at the Penwith Gallery, St Ives, Far and Wild Living in Perranporth and the Naked Eye Gallery in Hove.
Katrina says ‘Both my sculptures and the themes I paint around are motivated by my love of the natural world and the diversity of creatures that inhabit it. As these environments and animals become scarcer I feel an increasing sense of loss and isolation which I attempt to express in my artwork combining this with the joy that being around nature brings to me’
